Wilbraham is considering building its own government internet network using $13.3 MILLION of your money! But other Massachusetts communities are selling their risky government-owned internet networks costing taxpayers millions and depriving them of other important services.

Why?

Because this bad plan has a history of failure across the country and in Massachusetts, often leaving taxpayers to foot the bill and diverting resources away from pressing community problems:

  • Both Braintree and Russell, Massachusetts’ government-owned internet networks failed and were sold to a private internet provider because the annual operating and maintenance costs became too much.
  • Last year, voters in Hampden rejected a government-owned internet project in their community due to the high costs and risk of running a network.

Even Wilbraham’s own consultant says the project could lead to a “death spiral” that will impact the town’s finances for years to come.

So, if other local governments are getting out of the internet business, why would Wilbraham go forward with borrowing millions of dollars to start a new network?

Wilbraham families cannot afford to be left with $13.3 MILLION in debt – and even more in ongoing operating costs that will be paid by local taxpayers – if this risky internet project fails. Instead, we need leaders to focus on critical needs like:

  • Ensuring our teachers and local schools have the resources they need
  • Funding road improvements to fix potholes and make our streets better
  • Providing important community recreational opportunities

It’s time to stop this risky $13.3 Million project in Wilbraham.

Tell local leaders that Wilbraham’s government should stay out of the internet business. Make your voice heard!
